Rockwall Tx was founded in 1854 on a hill overlooking the East Fork of the Trinity River. The City and County was named for a extensive underground rock formation discovered by Terry Wade in 1852. The stone wall was found while Wade was digging a well just outside the present square of Rockwall. Since then, many additional outcroppings of the wall have been discovered in the area, looking strangely man made. The debate continues to this day with many claiming it is a stone wall created thousands of years ago by unknown inhabitants. Others maintain that the rock wall is a natural geological formation.
