The Rockwall Kiwanis Club will host the City of Rockwall 41st annual Christmas Parade on Saturday December 4th 2010 at 9A.M. on the old Downtown square. This years theme is “My Favorite Christmas Song”. This annual City of Rockwall Christmas Parade is always a treat as many community organizations and businesses spend countless dollars and time decorating their floats and dressing their marchers in hope of winning an award. This year Kiwanis will present the Mayors Award, The Grand Marshall Award, the Best Theme Award and the Small Fry Award. This years Grand Marshall is Edona Smajli. This Reinhardt Elementary 4th grader won the Poster contest in the Rockwall Independent School District contest. The Wells Fargo Horse Drawn Wagon will be making it’s first appearance in this years parade. The parade is limited to 100 entries but Mary Smith, parade director and Kiwanis board member, says there are still a limited number of spots available. The parade will line up on Caruth Lane starting at 7:00 A.M. The parade will start at Caruth and 205 (Goliad) and will proceed South to Kaufman Street, turn East on Kaufman and terminate at the Dobbs Elementary parking lot. The stage will be set up on the North West side of the Rockwall County Courthouse, where Gary Freedman will again be the Master of Ceremony. There will be various entertainment on the stage prior to the parade.The best areas to view the parade are in Downtown Rockwall and from Caruth Lane to Kaufman on either side of the street. The route is usually full so plan on getting there early to save your seat for the parade.
After the parade make sure to stick around the square as the Downtown Rockwall Merchants will be holding the Old town Christmas Market. The Old Town Christmas Market is an open-air art market offering art, homemade goods and crafts. The Market will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 9AM until 2PM. The Market is located on San Jacinto Street across from the Historic Courthouse. Complimentary warm beverages, Christmas music and friendly faces at the Old Town Christmas Market.
